Active Travel means making journeys in physically active ways such as walking, wheeling, cycling or scootering with the aim of making active travel the natural choice for short journeys.
By supporting more people to walk, wheel and cycle for everyday short journeys will help to improve health, create safer communities, and reduce environmental impacts.
Rise advocate for increasing the opportunities for all communities to be able to actively travel which can offer a convenient, accessible and affordable way to move more.
Active travel can improve health and wellbeing, as well as reducing carbon footprints and saving money.

Transport Policy
This includes policies that are set at both a regional level by Transport North East
who now form part of the North East Combined Authority and at a local level in
each of the six Local Authorities.
At a regional level we contributed to the consultation for the North East Transport Strategy and were a stakeholder through the consultation process for the regional Active Travel Strategy.
Locally we have inputted and contributed to the development of Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP’s).
We also seek to encourage Local Authorities to deliver the proposals identified in the LCWIP’s.
Be aware of the positive impacts on health and wellbeing linked to active travel opportunities which are contained in both regional and local Transport Policies.
We want to ensure that the opportunities to actively travel are equitable, improved and increased across the whole region.
