The Ann Craft Trust’s annual campaign Safeguarding Adults Week will run from 17 – 21 November.
This years’ theme is prevention – it is much better to prevent abuse from occurring in the first place than it is to respond to instances of harm, neglect, and isolation. Everyone has the right to feel safe and live free from abuse or neglect, regardless of age.
Throughout the week our sport welfare team will be raising awareness of safeguarding adults through online events and in person workshops. They’ll be working with sports clubs in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and Durham to support team talks about safeguarding, and will be ending the campaign by taking part in the Park Run domestic abuse takeover.

Have a team talk at your training sessions this week, focusing on adult safeguarding in sport. To make it easy, the Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board has created a short PowerPoint with key information, explaining what safeguarding adults in sport means, what to do if you have a concern, and some useful conversation prompts.
You can use these resources to run a 5–10 minute team talk before or after your session.
Don’t fancy delivering it yourself? No problem! Our sport welfare team will be out and about during the week and can visit your club to lead a Team Talk for you.
