As part of our 10-year strategy, we’ve made it a priority to tackle the climate crisis through our work. We’re committed to making a difference by integrating environmentally sustainable practices into everything we do.

Key areas of focus
We have signed up to the SME Climate Hub pledge to reduce our emissions by 50% by 2030 and to be carbon neutral by 2050.
Alongside all other Active Partnerships across England, we have also signed up to the Active Partnership Network’s Environmental Sustainability Commitment.

We work collaboratively with SBS to monitor, record and set targets for our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
For the second year running, we have achieved a green award through the national environmental accreditation scheme, Investors in the Environment (iiE). This milestone marks the highest level of accreditation from iiE, recognising our continued commitment to sustainability.
Our environmental initiatives:
- The appointment of two ‘green champions’ who have engaged with national campaigns to help us boost our sustainability. These have included: litter picks during Great Big Green Week; World Plant Milk Day to encourage more sustainable choices amongst staff; a digital detox day to reduce carbon emissions.
- Driving down emissions in key areas; working to reduce electricity use by 50%, use of gas by 73% and reduce waste by 17%.
- A travel plan which actively encourages sustainable travel, e.g. introducing access to electric bikes for local meetings and improving facilities for those who can cycle to work.
- Introduction of an EV salary sacrifice scheme, with plug-in hybrid options now also available for staff.
- Undertake quarterly waste audits across our two office sites to monitor recycling practices and set targets for waste reduction.

Sport England’s Every Move strategy
We are supporting Sport England’s sustainability agenda, through their Every Move strategy, which states that all systems partners must hold a robust sustainability strategy by 2027, as a condition of funding.
We are proactively taking steps to ensure that system partners across the North East are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop strategies ahead of the 2027 deadline.
