It’s my responsibility to ensure we gain a deeper understanding of the barriers to being physically active that residents face in our places of focus – and, through a place-based approach, support the system to transform lives and communities through the power of movement.
I provide strategic leadership for the Sport England-funded place work across our region, aiming to tackle inequalities in physical activity. I work closely with strategic partners and stakeholders including local authorities, education, health and VCFSE sector to ensure physical activity is embraced as part of system level change.
Since joining what was then known as Tyne and Wear Sport in 2013, I’m proudest of the strong relationships I’ve built with partners across multiple sectors and of my past and current team who embrace the challenges of place-based working.
Previously I worked for a national governing body, Rugby Football League, developing and growing the game across the North East, and during 2017 was the Team Manager for the England Women’s Rugby League team in the build up and during their World Cup campaign in Australia.
Outside of work, I’m happiest when spending time with family and friends, moving including functional fitness, being outdoors and walking, as well as reading, eating and watching real crime documentaries and cookery shows.
